My involvement in the Atlanta Hospital Hospitality House (AHHH) started back in 2009 when I was invited as a volunteer to cook dinner for the guests. You really don’t get the real meaning behind an organization like the AHHH until you have the opportunity to sit down and hear a guest’s story, or help them take their mind off of why they are there. This is where it all started for me.
The AHHH provides nearly 6000+ guest accommodations per year and has been doing so since 1982.
The atmosphere is very home like and enables the guests to bond with one another. Many long lasting bonds and friendships between guests are made while staying at the AHHH. Each guest is served a nightly meal and a warm bed, all managed by a seasoned friendly staff. 2016 we can happily report that our occupancy increased to nearly 100% during the Monday-Friday timeframe.
Our operation wouldn’t be so without the generous supporters, hardworking staff, volunteers willing to give their time and talents and our board of directors. We have seen a lot of change since early 2009; with the opening of the new Home Depot Marcus Hospitality Cottage to a significant kitchen renovation and now the completion of our major Capital Campaign raising in excess of $1.1M. We are very thankful for all our supporters and volunteers who work tirelessly at each fundraising event to ensure the optimum amount of funds are realized and put back into the operations of the AHHH.
In 2016 we organized our Board of Directors into four core sub committees; Development, Volunteering, Operations and Governance & Finance. This has allowed our board to be more strategic with the talents they bring to the organization. In 2017 we have also added a new committee to focus solely on guest experience and what that looks like.
Our focus for 2017 will be to strengthen and grow new and existing partnerships, begin to build the foundation of our 2020 Vision and execute on the remaining Capital Campaign Projects, such as installing an operational elevator, and renovate an existing bathroom for handicap accessibility. Stay tuned for highlights of what our 2020 Vision will look like.
I want to thank our Executive Director, Barbara Peters, Staff, Volunteers, and Board Members who
provide their endless time to support the mission of the organization. I would encourage you to
support the organization, your financial contributions are as important as your time and talents.
